The Basic Structure
Your BaZi chart has two components: a fixed component (the Four Pillars from your birth date) and a dynamic component — the Luck Pillars that cycle through your life in 10-year periods. Each Luck Pillar is a Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch pair, the same format as your birth pillars.
Starting at a specific age calculated from your birth data, you enter your first major Luck Pillar. After 10 years, you move to the next, and so on throughout your life.
Finding Your Starting Age
Your first Luck Pillar starting age depends on your gender, whether you were born in a Yang or Yin year, and how close your birth date was to the nearest Solar Term. This typically puts the first pillar between ages 3 and 13.
